love seeing your takes on mouthwashing and how sane they are. everything's so black or white. I like how you acknowledge curlys abuse under jimmy (which I honestly didn't quite notice when I first watched a playthrough. should rewatch w this in mind) and how that very much doesn't "forgive" his inaction towards Anya and Her abuse under jimmy. I think what happens to him despite all his issues (bc he clearly wasn't OK 😊✌🏼) is very much karmic. I really did hurt huh
I hate the take that what happened to him is karmic as becoming disabled and being tortured is like not in any way an equal consequence for not taking more action against Jimmy. It is a consequence as is the whole game for everyone but it’s one that is very much established as being undeserved and extreme as everyone else’s but Jimmy’s fate.
Thank you for liking my takes but I also try to point out that this exact sort of framing of the events and what happened to Curly is bad especially if you are gonna factor in his own abuse into the equation of his inaction/ineffective acts. It’s like “saying yeah he deserved the abuse he was already going through to escalate because he didn’t do enough” which is like not a message the game tries to deliver at all. It’s like the game shows that abusers escalate
Karma and punishment are not concepts that I think should be directly tied to Curly’s fate especially since during the game and even in discussion he takes on too many consequences of someone else’s actions. Like this framing is the direct thing I describe taking the discussion away from Jimmy, P.E and the factors that created the environment in the first place.

Brain was bad enough today that I actually made myself go to a drop-in crisis counseling appointment at our student health center (with the kind of trauma I have with school mental health services, this is almost unfathomable, and indicative of just how dire things have gotten) and it..... actually turned out to be genuinely helpful. Which is obviously a good thing, but also has me a little incandescently angry on behalf of my 19 year-old self, who got totally thrown to the wolves by my first university.
I went in today expecting either a patronizing, useless conversation that made me feel ultimately worse or for someone to strong-arm me into making decisions I wasn't comfortable with because of me so clearly being in crisis, and instead got a quick, "triage" evaluation from one provider, sent off to a second one for an actual therapy appointment where I got some genuinely good advice from someone who felt like she genuinely wanted to help me, and scheduled for a second follow-up with her next week.
I'm still feeling pretty mentally wobbly, but managed to at least send off several emails I'd been putting off and feel like even though I missed most of my classes today, I might at least get something turned in. Which is very much not how I ever felt when I left similar urgent mental health drop-ins at the terrible expensive "elite" private school I went to as a freshman (I'll actually expose myself a tad and point fingers here, it was NYU; don't make my mistakes). I'm glad I got something that felt like real help today, but god... it does make me realize just how unfair my experiences were my first year of college.
#literally the only reason i got out of that school okay was because friends from here on tumblr intervened with advice#people i'd known for like a few months helped walk me through getting a mental health withdrawal because i didn't even have an advisor#hell school!!#and like the university i attend now isn't one i'd call particularly altruistic. and it's also massive and easy to slip through cracks#but thus far i've found to at least have like. functional disability and mental health services staffed by people who want to help students#instead of folks who act like you're an item on a checklist who's being difficult#was a tiny bit worried even trying to access support today was going to be too much of a trigger for me so i'm glad it wasn't#but also. that should not be a thing a school ever made me feel!#awful!!

#NO SHIT SHERLOCK#that second part is a direct quote#also I work at a newspaper so this normally wouldnt be that surprising#except we got merged with another company and our previous parent company GAVE the paper to New Parent#with a multi year grant to ensure the newsroom would stay staffed#that was not even 18 months ago#they laid off a bunch of reporters and a bunch of support (sales IT etc) staff#anyway I thought I had worked through my emotions yesterday but it turns out no#words spoken to an empty sky

This is hitting too close to home, our healthcare system is in shambles right now and yet I walk on to the ward with our unsafe staffing levels and burnt out colleagues and we still manage to get through the day. It very much is due to extensive training and great guidelines that we avoid incidents at this rate. But it would be so much better if we had extra staffing and support.
It's really important when you're at work to go out there and really give it your 60%. Maybe 35%.

bc I can’t get full time at my current jobs my parents are insisting I find any other job for the time that I’m off school (before my co-op starts in the summer) but they also want me to get like. a “good job” and I don’t think they understand how hard it is for a uni student with no qualifications that wants to work full time but only for 3 months not in the summer to find a job that isn’t just the world’s worst retail

I think they want me to be a receptionist or a bank teller or smth#but. most of those I am woefully under qualified for and half of them are fucking salaried#I’m not going to work at a salaried job for three months#and like. my favourite store downtown is hiring and I could conceivably get like 20hr/week there#and then if I kept the 12hr/week at my fun current job (ditch the other one bc my hours are all over the place)#that’s a decent amount of work I think#but I don’t think my parents would support that#and also it would mean I would have to commute downtown which does suck#but. I also want to work somewhere where I can make friends with cool people my age.
